The new routine at least for the winter is pig slop, heated for 5 minutes on high. It stinks up the kitchen because the stove isn’t clean, and as far as I can tell from the pig’s body language, he not only doesn’t care, I think he prefers it cool.
But I’m heating it up again today. A Friday special and I’m a little bit early to the kitchen anyway. The dogs have been in a mood. They usually get in the mood Thursday or Friday because it’s been a week and they miss their cuddle master but today was incredibly annoying. Starting at 5:30 a.m. they were doing that intermittent bark every few minutes and throwing in a whine now and then. It’s a continuous annoyance that keeps you awake so that you intend to them. I held out for a while but there’s no point.
The problem is that they’re just a little bit lonely so when I come to their attention they have nothing to do. I ask; what? What? They stare blankly at me. I come downstairs and let them outside but it’s raining so they want back inside. They just want to be near a human instead of being left alone all day. I’ll have to add that into my routine and give them occasional praise and a pat on the head.
Technically, the rule is I’m not allowed to show the dogs affection because they need to know their one master and that I’m just the guy that lets them out to go pee. I do a little bit more than that but I follow the rules and I don’t play with them or get them to fetch things. I don’t try to train them. I’m just the guy that lets them out to pee.
So maybe today, they need to get let out to pee a few extra times just for human contact. We’ll see how that goes. Tomorrow is Saturday and he’ll be home all day again.
I forgot to check how many minutes ago I put the pig slop on the stove. I say it’s cooked so I’m going to turn it off now and then it’s probably too hot.
Edit: I let it cool down a little but when I plopped it onto his plate it was still steaming. He definitely doesn’t like it. He actually smelled it and then came at me. I wasn’t sure what to do. I moved out of the way came at me again moved out of the way and he backed off probably back to eat. The only way I can interpret this is that he doesn’t like his food hot.
I’ll try again and I’ll wait until it gets less hot, but I really think he’s happier when it’s the regular coolness I’ve been serving him since I started.
