There is an episode in Star Trek The Next generation where the inhabitants of a planet mistakenly believe that Captain Picard is a god. Now that I think of it there are probably several episodes of Star Trek The Next generation where this happens and most likely a one or two in the original series and several in the other series but I’m referring specifically to the one named who watches the watchers.

There are several memorable moments in this episode that I reflect upon now and then when I see lesser beings trying to figure out what would make me happy. To my cats and dogs, I am as close as a god to a being that doesn’t understand the concept of God
But it always makes me laugh and smile when they try their very best to figure out what would make me happy. As I go out to feed them each day I watch them jump around with Glee. Both mine and theirs. But the most fun part is when I’m doing a task like cleaning up their poo or getting the dog food dishes together and they follow me so closely with their eyes and every move I make they either mimic or try to predict. It reminds me of that episode where they have no clue how to make Picard happy but everything seems to be a sign or a clue and if they do it wrong it might rain. Have we not done what you asked of us Picard, paraphrased from the episode.
Don’t worry my little puppies. Even when you shit all over I’m still happy. There is little you could do to make it otherwise. I’m not saying there’s nothing because dogs have really pissed me off in the past but my cute little puppies make me happy. I shall seek no vengeance upon them
