Wham. I’m trying not to be offended

I have managed to pack most of my clothing into one big suitcase and a second one set aside for all my tech stuff, just to throw it in. I do not care about folding clothes or making everything secure. Two suitcases: one is done, the clothing, and the other one I can do tomorrow and walk around the house and see what else is there. The flight is booked for Monday, and this is Friday night at 8:30 p.m. I’ll probably never see my sister again or her husband, Doug, and it’s a weird feeling being kicked out.

I would have procrastinated a little longer, of course, because that’s what I do, but having a deadline makes it easier overall. I don’t want to get sad and extend that over time, thinking about how I’ll miss the only cat I ever was close to. I can live without the chickens. That’s fine. They were fun, and I made some interesting videos with them. I’ll still have those memories, but having a cat in my life and my bedroom was a new experience.

I’ve lived with cats before, but they’ve always spent their time with someone else in the house. Even my favorite cat, Neelix, really was more someone else’s. This is the first time I’ve actually left my door open all the time, and the cat had free roam and lay on my bed most days. Her area is completely hair-covered.

Chloe is a good cat. She doesn’t knock things over. She doesn’t eat plants. She doesn’t startle me very often, and she doesn’t sit on the computer and walk all over things very much. She knows these are bad things because when she’s hungry and she hasn’t been fed, then she starts to do all those things, knowing it irritates me.

We have a good relationship that’s got a few rituals that are well-trained. We go to the bathroom together. I’m not quite sure why, but she likes that kind of petting that happens there, and it’s different than the petting in other places. She knows that if she comes to talk to me and jumps up, I will give her some affection, and then I will stop, and she’ll leave. She doesn’t cling like some dogs do that don’t want to stop being pet. I definitely will miss that. Ironically, I won’t miss the people, and apparently they’re happy to get rid of me.
