I’m quite frequently bothered by the fact that I’m smart and more and more I realize that’s rarer than I ever expected it to be. Growing up as a kid or a young adult You seldom really get to think much about where you fit in the grand scheme of things with regards to your brain. You just are you. The more you age and the more generations that loop through your observational space the more you get to see that not everyone is as smart. Additionally there are people who are smarter than me.
It’s a controversial topic obviously especially to those who are not yet at the stage of realization that they are less smart than the average. Or as we are seeing today, significantly less smart than the average. Although I suppose technically that brings the average down. If it continues and stupid people mate and don’t have freedom of education. The inequality of intelligence may end up being greater than the wealth inequality we’re all complaining about today.
Witnessing this decline is painful and perhaps especially painful to people like me that are not get things done kind of people. I’m more of the I have an idea but I’m going to ignore it because it’s too hard and I don’t really want to burden my friends with a chore that is just my idea.
But everyday I watch Instagram videos and YouTube videos of smart people trying to explain the situation in America right now or the situation in the world right now. What’s going on with the president of the United States isn’t really that new and it’s very similar to other situations that have been around like cults and religion. They are communities that exploit the people who are less smart than the leaders of those communities.
This situation has always fascinated me and I have searched my entire life to meet someone that I respect and might consider a intellectual equal, that can explain to me why they choose to believe in the Christian God or any religion that makes absolute statements about things we cannot make absolute statements about and by choice chooses to not believe the facts and theories of the scientific principle.
One of the things that I do in my life is try to figure things out try to understand things since I was never good at memorization and learning I did discover that I was good at understanding if I understood things, I didn’t have to memorize them because they would make equal sense next time and there are so many things about cults that are obvious and explainable and so many things about religion that don’t quite fit my understanding of logic and the universe. The population of Canada or the United States is bigger than most of us can comprehend to think that one office building in Toronto at any given moment can contain more people than the entire town that I grew up in. There can be more people shopping at Walmart at any given moment than could fill a baseball stadium. The number of people is mind-bogglingly big and so I understand how cults, create communities that give dumb people a sensitive belonging and loyalty and they free them from the need to know the answers to things simply by saying I’m a member of this group they’ve got the answers I don’t want to hear from you.
I once made the statement that the hardest thing in the world to change is someone’s belief and if they don’t want that change and won’t try. Then logic doesn’t matter. If I have a bunch of friends that support me and my belief that the world is flat then I don’t need to worry about whether or not other people think I’m crazy or that there’s evidence against it. None of that matters because I have a community that supports me. They’re not looking to change so they’re not listening to facts and even if deep down in their brain they think maybe instead of an absolute yes, there’s still enough support that they go with the flow they learn the secret handshake and say Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and put their fingers in their ears and sing la la whenever you try to convince them otherwise.
I just can’t wrap my head around smart people feeling that way as well. I’ve always been very conscious of what other people think of me and to be on the obvious opposition to smart people would terrify me.
If anyone ever comes up to me and tells me that most of the world thinks I’m an idiot, I’m not only going to freak out, but I’m going to listen to that person and try and figure out what they’re talking about and what I’m on the wrong side of. Having said that, I tune into the internet every single day and see people being interviewed about their moronic beliefs and their responses ah shut up and they walk away.
Those people live in a different universe than I do. The reason we all live in this mixed universe with both sides is because the smart people realize it’s a trap. There’s really very little that they can do to change the minds of people proud to be ignorant with their community.
A number of key things have been taught to Americans very early in life. One is you make a choice and you stick with it. You can’t show weakness by changing your mind even against ridiculous odds that you might have chosen wrong, you picked your pony and write it to the end which could be any day now.
I love some of the videos online exposing and explaining how empires are made, how cults expand , And how Christianity has worked its way so deeply into North American culture. It’s mind-boggling and I have to believe that smart people get it but also understand the benefits from belonging to such a large group and being on their side. I have to believe that the 😉 secret handshake Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior is not a true belief by anyone with a certain level of intelligence. Recently my feed has started showing me a lot more religious content than political content possibly because I clicked like on a few of the ones that I liked. The amount of videos I’m watching about stupid people confronting smart people and talking about their God with absolute certainty is quite sad
The amount of atheist pro or Con content in my feed shocks me simply because I don’t see the third option. I don’t want to be considered part of the atheist group that seems to be so much under attack these days. I want to see people in these interviews and they’re asked about how they maintain being a good person without a belief in God, I want to see them respond with are you fucking kidding me? Are you a moron? I don’t care about offending you because you’re stupidity offends me and even asking that question is is mind-boggling. I know I have met a fair number of people and only one person I know used to believe that the Bible was true and their religion was the real religion. Apparently I helped them understand that that was not the truth Early in our relationship. I don’t know how or why but I was pleased because it allowed me to respect them and if they told me that the Bible was real I wouldn’t be able to
Media has to make the world believe they are the majority to be successful in a cult or religion or political party. American elections always have to be close. Understanding how the world works is a curse but not really caring all that much is a blessing. I can be sad that the world isn’t good to the poor and stupid but I live in a farm I eat most days some food and I am not responsible for other people’s evil so my best chance at survival is to ignore it all just like I do in my own life. That’s not a good answer but I don’t see an alternative and that’s why the world is always changing but very very slowly and in the loop. Regime takeovers and political/religious leaders have always changed since the beginning. Smart people figured it out. Nothing really matters so why not abuse the system, make up the rules, and win at the game.
There will always be people to support you as long as you call them you are followers and tell them what they want to hear.
