I have been wanting to try some experiments with strobe lighting. Super fast flashes of light in a dark area.
I have memories of it being somewhat fun and disorienting at parties. Somewhere in my social media browsing I recently saw something with strobe lights and smoke.
I don’t remember where or even what I saw but I’m trying to find new ways to use meth exhales in videos. Strobe lights could be cool. As 1:30 came up on my bedroom clock and I’d turned over a few more times, I decided this was the evening/morning to take advantage of the darkness.
I downloaded a pretty cool adjustable strobe for my camera LED and it worked great with a range from too slow to too fast. I had no idea what MHz a regular strobe light was but I remembered them being adjustable too.
I experimented with my hands at various speeds but I was seeing no fun. I took a shard to generate the required smoke but wasted it with poorly aimed light and I didn’t want to do a bunch more to get it right at 2am.
I’m giving up for now. I may read a bit more but initial research was scarce. Most of the internet was focused on fire alarms that use strobes or dance clubs that combine them with lasers but I found minimal instruction for just playing around.
My little camera flash has limited power and this range. I’d still like to see one of huge clouds in strobe lighting but I don’t need to be awake till Wednesday night.
It’s a work night for him so he’ll be up at 3am. I won’t be able to play without causing a distraction and conversation.
2:20am update. I felt itchy and bothered so that was enough to convince me falling asleep would be tough and I blew some big clouds into the darkness. I’m optimistic I can get some effect worthy of my trials but now I have to wait till leaves at 5am.
That should be enough darkness for some experiments before the eastern September sun brightens my bedroom.
More updates to come.
