I have a story about a life hack that I was just reminded of recently and thought I could retell here. And I call it giving the gift of a story. People love to hear stories and stories bond you.
So, when I was doing tech support in home, I trained my employees to always ask about something in the house when you enter. Like, oh, what’s the story behind that beautiful painting there? Or what’s the story behind that sculpture? And if something looks exotic, even better. Like if they had to go to Africa to get it.
They’re going to be delighted to tell you the story and that you noticed their pride piece. And once that’s happened, you’re not a service technician anymore. You’re a friend. And it works amazingly.
