As I was finishing off the blog post here which is a reasonably deep philosophical post, I was thinking about how the subject title of that blog clear direction in mind and the blog that followed didn’t reference the title or the concept behind the title even once my mind had an inspiration and then almost instantaneously pivoted a different topic that was Spontaneously imagined Then we took a left turn. What occurred to me as I was saving it and I saw the title once more which for the record was in reference to the God of Sisyphus who was famous for pushing a giant boulder up a hill and then it falls back down and he has to do the same task again. I’ve used that mythology in my stories and blogs many times because it reflects the way I think about my life as a series of incomplete tasks that I give up on and then start again fresh on what I refer to as a Monday.
The neat twist that I thought of in the moment just now was how much like AI that way of thinking is. The artificial intelligence computers that I use for programming these days are bad at seeing the whole picture They’re very good at starting over I’m trying to get as far as they can one try but seemingly quite horrible in understanding the individual bits and pieces that might need changes because once they’ve completed the whole they are limited to only seeing little bits of it at a time and they are not totally self aware of this limitation so they tend to react to everything without context that closely resembles the way that the ADHD brain is being described these days in social media we tend to treat interactions as new without context
I’m not typing this blog I’m saying it out loud and the computer is translating it to English And so not only do I hear myself speaking these words but I see them appearing in text in front of me and before I hit save or publish in this case and commit this to both my memory and the real world memory that this blog in WordPress I reevaluate and decide it’s nothing ADHD brain. I was just expanding my frustration with AI programming being so bad at minor changes and so great at starting over which is something that I relate to. Sometimes quitting and starting over extends the period of enjoyment and puts off the inevitable first share, judgment Day, or failure all of which are somewhat expected in the back of my head Clearly explains one reason why I don’t finish things that I start but I start so many things including the same things over and over.
