I’m a pretty intelligent guy with with ADHD and there are a few things in life that I let bother me. I try not to get too upset with the world and I kind of understand how imperfect it is merely because of the population. When you have a lot of people, you’re going to have a lot of stupid people.

It seems a lot of them post instructional videos on YouTube or blog posts and the rest of them post comments on those posts.

I hate YouTube videos that are 10 minutes long to answer a two second question. If I’m curious about something in WordPress and I’m looking on YouTube, you can bet I know what WordPress is. I don’t need you to explain every step starting with how to install WordPress.

Videos that answer specific questions should start at the point where you answer the question first. They can fill in details after I’ve walked away for those that need the remedial version.

The thing that most irritates me is that the internet is designed to store things including those things which shouldn’t be stored. When someone asks a question online, there may be 10,000 wrong answers and comments telling people that the answers are wrong. Some of them are just old and a lot of them are current and still quite wrong. It has made the internet less useful for finding the answers in troubleshooting.

I give up pretty quickly whenever I’m trying to find the answer to something online. One of the things that bugs me most are the people who post messages that say me too or I have that problem too or the worst of these is those posts that say I don’t know the answer but blah blah blah blah. Why are you even reading these messages if you don’t know the answer.

I realize that calling someone on the phone for technical support is even worse but that’s a whole different blog. I love to wait 15 minutes on hold and then someone tell me they have no idea how to solve my problem or or commonly they will ask me to go through the 15 steps I’ve already done and failed. I hate that.

Sadly this blog is one of those because I don’t have any answers. It would be nice if there was a way to delete useless posts and out of date posts though Google. That would be a huge improvement if I could search for technical support and only find answers from the last 5 years from people who actually answered the posts. The number of links on Google to problems that are not solved is mind-boggling.

I’m a technical guy and this frustrates me but I can’t imagine how frustrated it is for people that don’t have the time or understanding to sift through 5,000 copies of the same incorrect post or the troubleshooting messages that explain the things that don’t work in response to questions that start with I’ve tried all those things and they don’t work.

Every now and then when I’m motivated because of a customer’s need, I can find a solution buried deep on some website with a solution that works amongst 10,000 pages of solutions that don’t.

That’s the end of my rant for today. Now get off my lawn.
