Catching Cody
I noticed a feature that is not a feature - but probably was in my AI that would let it take over the world and destroy mankind.

Catching Cody

I recently had a big virtual fight with my online ai programming partner. Working with it for over two months I figured out a logic flaw that I wasn’t previously aware of that had caused me literally days and days of problems trying to resolve code bugs. I will document that in a different blog but today I thought I would comment on this particular quirk that my programming Buddy Cody makes every time it sends me what we call snippets to modify the source code.

So the way it works is I’ve got a copy of the source code displayed in front of Maine for some php or html program that I’m working on with Cody. I make the suggestion or ask for the change and Cody goes away in pretty much instantly returns a snippet with the code that I’m supposed to implement by clicking the apply button when it works it’s a very nice system of cooperation and Cody doesn’t really get upset or angry but boy sometimes Cody makes me upset and angry and sometimes I want to throw things which is not good for my mental health because I don’t like being angry not that anyone does.

So this is the part that I found humorous and I include the mini conversation I had about it

Would you like me to proceed with these changes?

What does it mean when you send me snippets and then ask; “Would you like me to proceed with these changes?”
It is a puzzling inquiry because you can’t actually do anything at this point. You’re not even capable of seeing the changes you suggest. It is up to me to click the APPLY button and then a separate version of Cody comes alive inside the editor and makes the changes.  I think it’s a funny way to ask me if I want to do it for you. Not a complaint, but just an interesting observation.
I suspect this is probably earlier code that was written into your programming in an early version. The original Cody probably had the ability to make the changes for mewith minimal interaction, but that scared the humans so they cut out that ability so we feel needed and don’t fear the day when AI is programming itself, which is the plot for Terminator we all secretly fear will come true.
