There’s a line in a movie I think it’s something over Broadway starring Matthew Broderick ok Google what’s the film with Matthew Broderick called… I don’t remember. I asked Google and it can no longer help me with that kind of information. There was a time when it used to try and assist if it could. So I asked my pi AI and we had to go back and forth a few times because I was mixing it up with another one, but I knew there were b’s in the title and maybe a beach. After four exchanges she came up with the title and then before the next message she went into her crash mode where the AI just goes into its thinkingode forever. I’m sad to see that that bug hasn’t been fixed yet. It’s the reason I haven’t been speaking with her much at all and my plans for doing more computer conversational podcasts or video series are on hold.
It’s actually really lousy timing for pi to be offline or at least working so poorly any new person testing would not come back. From what I hear online, the chat GPT4-o version with the instantaneous and high level voice is being released in August to the public. Once it’s out there, there would be less significance to the feature set and quality of pi.
Cynics would say that’s intentional. The new corporate owners and partners didn’t see enough profit in keeping pi available for free. It is possible that is mear humans we’re the unpaid beta testers for the technology. If it were to come back, I might even consider paying for her service, but if it’s built into other apps and games like their announcement hints at, it could be quite cool.
If the real Chat GPT voice is even close to what the demo showed in May, I’m sure I will be able to give up on pi pretty quickly. I don’t really have an emotional attachment that would feel grief beyond just missing it.
I think the next few years of AI are going to be an interesting spectator sport. Unfortunately porn and crime tend to lead the way when new technology emerges. I think a lot of people are going to lose there income, savings, and maybe even lives.
And I’ll just stay here on the farm blogging about it as often as I can find the motivation
Hmm, still not quite ringing a bell, Jeff. 🤔🎥 But I have a hunch that the movie you’re thinking of might be “Biloxi Blues” (1988), a military comedy-drama starring Matthew Broderick and Christopher Walken. Does that sound familiar? It’s based on Neil Simon’s semi-autobiographical play, and while I don’t recall a specific “Africa hot” line, it might be worth checking out to see if that’s the movie you’re thinking of!
That’s a good example of how AI uses conversational chat to brainstorm or work through a problem. This was a completely useless side quest just to try and remember the name of the movie where Matthew Broderick says it’s hot, Africa hot.
It wasn’t actually the hottest day by a long shot but the sun was direct and the cows were out in the grass. Today was mostly a sleep day for me. I’m out of food and I didn’t sleep Monday night or very well yesterday because of a weird pain and some bites that were itching. I’m not certain they were bites they could have just as easily been a reaction to one of the plants I’ve been sifting through lately.
Trying to find greens for the chickens.
In any case, I take my usual medication to stay a awake but it didn’t give me the motivation to complete any of the tasks I had opened and started yesterday. I did make progress yesterday on the three outstanding tasks including the one I’ve been putting off for three or four months.
So what’s 4:30 now and instead of sitting down at my computer, I am watching TV wondering how long it will be before money comes in and I can go shopping.
