I first set out to write this blog, and then it occurred to me that it might be a better video though, since it’s about AI. So I loaded up video. Ready to do it? And I got distracted, started playing so. I’m back writing the blog, but I’m using my voice instead. Lately I’ve been making a lot of. Videos using AI that. Are referred to as AI, slop. I suppose many would say that all my AI videos are kind of sloppy, and I’ve been doing that for years, even before I was called AI. Publicly. But with the. Invention of. New social media networks based solely on. Each second or less videos that you just make up on the family, like Sora 2. AI Slot Pez. Becomes more popular and. Caught my eye. I’ve always liked fast changing scene comedy like Laughing Open Doors and. A lot of things like Mad TV. And quick bumpers. It’s simple comedy with a punch line and move on. So I start doing. 8 second videos like everyone else but. They don’t really have the same. Pull or grab or fan base that I expected them to because they’ve been named AI, slop.
Now, throughout history, there have always been changes. Whether it be evolution or invention. Things change. And there will always be people. Who didn’t like that change? Who don’t like change? Many of them. Heating changes a major part of their personality. Right now we’re seeing it with AI. And they certainly do have some justification for. The anger towards it but. I have a different opinion. Whether it be capitalism or just creative invention. Hustlings move forward. And one of the things we like to do most is make things easier for people. We invent things that make things easier. Or we make them cheap enough for everyone to afford things that previously only kings and rich people could afford. And we do this all the time. Because people like to invent things. And every time someone comes along and invents some modernized. Product. There are people who hate it. The first electronic synthesizers. Could make music. Without instruments. People hated it. That’s not real music, they said. You don’t have to look very far in either direction to find similar inventions. That people hated. The main difference with AI is. The sheer volume of. Modernizing. That it covers is staggering. It’s not just one invention that makes drawing easier. Or composing music. Easier. It can create the entire orchestra. And the programs. And the publicity and the TV commercials. And the parodies? And write the music. And that’s just the entertainment business. AI is everywhere. And it’s easy to see why people would get upset at that.
Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your. Side of the argument. It’s probably here to stay. And the people who hate it. Will be left behind. I’m sure there were. A lot of people who kept horses instead of cars for. A few extra years. Until all of their friends. Started making fun of them and saying come on. Get with the program. Buy a car already. People who oppose change. Almost always. Look foolish. When that change becomes the mainstream, and that’s going to happen with AI.
The thing that. Hatred. Likes to bring up. Is that it’s? Stolen. Creativity. It’s one of the main talking points of the opposition. And although I can’t deny that AI was trained on other people’s work. It’s clear to me. That everything is. I doubt very much that there are any musicians. Or artists. That would dare to claim their work is not inspired by listening to other works. And liken it. By taking classes of the. Masters or. Classics.. Our entire universe. Is based on seeing something. And doing that. It should come as no surprise that. That’s how we trained computers. The haters will have. Answers for that, of course. I come back to the same point that. It doesn’t really matter. Because it’s done. It’s happened. And it’s going to be the. Way people produce. Moving forward. History has certainly showed us that. The general human population. Will not. Choose. To pay more. When alternatives exist? Or to Put effort in when easy solutions. Have been invented. Corporations are not going to say. That’s OK. We don’t need AI. We can spend $16 million on a Super Bowl commercial..
I am oversimplifying it because at this current moment in the timeline. We’re still in the early stages where. Reproducing. Movies. Umm. Or really? Any video over 8 seconds. There’s still quite a bit of work. And its work by creative people. I want to point that out. Sure 6 year olds can make 8 second AI slop. But there’s still value to being talented. Less, but it still exists. It will change. Whether you like it or not. So I embrace it as I have almost every technology. At the earliest possible. Moments. My income has not always allowed me to be an early adopter. But I have been. As close as I could be.. Our family had one of the first calculators, 1 of the first microwaves, one of the 1st VCRS. When the first front wheel drive vehicles. I remember when my dad bought a stud Finder. There were probably. Handyman and carpenters hated that technology, too.
One of the things that technology does. Very well. Is allow people who previously would not have been able to do this type of creation. The option. To do it without. 16 years of. Training or. Talent. The fact that. Just about anybody can now make professional quality videos. Means that there will be some really amazing quality videos coming. And calling them slop. Is doing yourself a disservice?
I remember when. Friends used to ask questions like if you could have any superpower, what would it be? Or. What would the genie grant you? Or what do you wish you could do? And I always head. A dream? Of being able to. Make music. And create art. And I could never quite decide that if I only had one, which one would be? I think there’s probably an awful lot of people who have that dream. Growing up. But my. ADHD brain. This can’t handle repetitive practice.. Umm. I don’t have the patience. Now at 62. I have composed or. Perhaps written is a better word the lyrics. Two, well, Oprah hundred songs. And at least four of them were really good and pride worthy. When people tell me that. Digital music is destroying the music industry. I think the music industry was destroyed a long time ago by. Greedy capitalists? And now anybody can get into that market. And share. And besides, some of the greatest hits were never written by the people singing them anyway. Paul Simon. And Ringo Starr. Are too famous. Musicians. That hardly wrote anything. To them. AI is just like a producer in a back office. Unseen. Creating music. Some people would call slop. Or pop.
I will certainly not defend. Bad art. I’ve never been a fan of. Really crappy talent. Being passed. Good. Umm. There are a few things in life I hate more. Than having to. After my opinion to someone who just painted a hideous. Portrait. Or landscape. That just hurts to look at. There is going to be. Bad AI art. We’ve seen it already. But there is also going to be. Exceptional mind blowing. Creativity. From people that. Never picked up a paintbrush. Because it was. Out of their league. Or too expensive? Myself included. The joy that I have. Experienced writing music that I really liked. Or creating. Videos bit. We’re impressive, even if I’m the only one. Viewing them. Is a joy I never thought I would experience. In my case. No one is losing their job because. I’m writing a few songs and editing a few videos. I’m not replacing. Other people. No no doubt AI, it’s replacing a lot of people and I don’t deny that. But it doesn’t make. The AI bad. And it doesn’t mean that everything created with AI. Should be judged. Before you see it. Judging art on principle. Just doesn’t make sense to me. In today’s world. Things move fast. And like Ferris Bueller says, if you don’t stop. Look around, you might just miss it. That’s probably not what Sarah Buehler said, but I can use AI to. Jack. This is currently 11175 words. Which? Costs too much to turn into a video. And I don’t know that anyone would. Sit around and listen to me ramble for this long anyway SO. I’ll do some human editing., perhaps some AI editing. And then had a. Computer. Turn this into a video. That some people. Well, watch. And some people will miss out on because. They just don’t get it.
