They don’t seem to like waking up when I ask them at 7:00 a.m., but they let me know what 8:00 a.m. it’s time to pee.

It’s a nice chill September morning so I come outside with them. The chickens have eaten and are down the yard so I don’t feel like I need my defense stick. I hope that doesn’t turn out to be a problem because the rooster is now here standing on a high perch staring at me. I’m on a high chair next to the porch so I feel reasonably safe that he won’t come at me for no reason at all.

I’ve been wrong before.

He stands tall and lets out a crow or two and then casually walks away realizing that there is no food this time. I notice that he avoids my path but perhaps it’s because the protection dog Lane nearby.

It’s not important. I just like the opportunity to sit outside and blog a bit.

The dogs play. I let them do a few things but they might not get away with normally. Sibling dog stuff. Play fighting. It’s usually stopped right away so they seem a little surprised I’m letting it continue.

That’s a lie. They’re not paying attention to me at all. They’re having fun. Animals are fun to watch. I would never want to own one myself, but other people’s animals are great fun, especially when your entire responsibility is less than an hour a day letting them in letting them out and feeding them.
